Adoption Help

Are you part of an adoptive family?

I've worked with many people whose lives have been touched by adoption, including courageous women who made the choice to place a child for adoption, and adoptive families who hoped for a child to raise as their own.  I've helped adopted children deal with  many different issues, including attachment, questions about their family history, and the formation of personal identity.

Most of the time, adoption is a beautiful story with a happy ending.  Sometimes it's more difficult than that.
The majority of the individuals and adoptive families who seek help are finally dealing, years later, with the emotional impact that adoption has had on their lives.  Adoptive Family Therapy can include individual, couples and/or family sessions.

Are you considering adoption, but still have concerns?

Adoption, the commitment to raising a non-biological child as one's own, requires very serious, planful thinking about oneself and one's family.  Sometimes this can raise doubts or concerns that aren't so easily solved.  If you've hit a "road block," then talking to a qualified, neutral third party may help.

Have you thought about or placed a child for adoption?

I have worked very closely with several women who placed their children for adoption, and others who made adoption plans but were unable or chose not to follow through.  I have the utmost admiration and respect for any mother who makes a loving, thoughtful plan for her child and herself, even in cases where an adoption can't be completed.  If you are a parent who is considering a choice or struggling with a past decision, I would love to hear from you.
